My parents go to a lot more concerts than I do, so when Tourism Swift Current invited me to go to the Art Council’s George Canyon concert, I knew I had to call them!

Mom and I checked into the Days Inn ( Dad had a separate car because he needed to ditch early for work) and we were excited to see that our room was poolside.  I was tempted to jump in the hot tub right then, but we were headed out for some fun.

The concert was being held at the Living Sky Casino, and it was sold out, so we wanted to beat the supper rush for a meal at Horizons Restaurant.

As usual, we were WAY early, so we hit the slot machines.  I had fun trying some new games (but luck wasn’t on my side).  My mom won a bit and then Dad hit a GOOD one!  I am still not sure if he knows that mom slipped me some of his winnings to pay for supper that I was trying to treat them to.

We got into Horizons just before the rush and I ordered the So-Gouda Brisket Burger.  It was so delicious that I was seriously dreaming about it that night.  The melted cheese and juicy meat…. I highly recommend.

With more time to kill before the concert started, we were happy to realize that there was a car show outside.  Every Tuesday during the nice weather, the parking lot fills with car enthusiasts in an event called Tail Light Tuesdays. We chatted and admired the variety of vehicles and some bearded men even volunteered to pose for some photos. Usually people run away from me when I ask if they want to be in a picture.

I grabbed a drink and we slipped into our front row seats just in time for the concert to start.  I have been in the casino’s events centre many times, but never when they have the auditorium style seating in there.  What a great venue for the Swift Current Art’s Council to be able to host concerts at.

I am terrible at knowing who sings what songs and was surprised that I knew 90% of the songs that he played.  George Canyon has an incredible deep voice…. And he tells some good dad jokes.  After intermission he played some old country classics, too.  It was a great show.

After breakfast at the hotel the next morning, I couldn’t get into the hot tub fast enough.  Did you know that the Days Inn in Swift Current has 2 hot tubs?  The main pool has one beside it along with a nice seating area with tables.  Just down the hall was the fitness room, a beautiful hot tub with jets bubbling, and a sauna!!!  It didn’t really matter at 9 o’clock on a Wednesday morning but that room was for ages 16+.  Heaven!

A quick staycation in Swift Current was the perfect way to spend time with my family.  Check out Tourism Swift Current’s Events Calendar to plan your getaway!

I'd love to hear from you:)
